Happy, er, maybe newyear

I'd wish you a happy new year but I doubt that's going to happen.

I knew this was going to happen months ago when the first signs showed themselves.

Bought your beans and rice yet?

Europe still in trouble

The EU is still having problems. Those problems will continue to get worse with time. A shorter time than that report suggests actually.

Home on the range?

I've had people ask me if it's a good time to buy a house. The answer is both yes and no. You can get some really good deals right now on houses. If you decide to buy then don't give the asking price. Unless you are buying a place in Hollywood or NYC you can often get them to take less than the asking price.

If your job is only holding on by it's fingernails then don't buy. Invest instead in long term food storage. More and more businesses are moving to other places. If there is no guarantee that your job is still going to be there five years from now and you end up on unemployment or working at McDonalds you will lose it.

When I suggest ideas for long term food storage people keep asking me the same questions. "Why should I buy all that wheat and stick it in a bucket? Won't it just go bad before I can use it all?" When properly done it can last for decades people. That's what the "long term" means.

Market

By the way, the stock market fell again today over fears of the Euro. Don't you just love the way the world is so interconnected?

When asked

I converse with a lot of people. Some of them think I'm a wise man and some of them think I'm a nut case. It doesn't really matter to me what people think of me. I've never really been a member of any herds.

Some of the things I talk about make sense no matter what you think of me. Lots of folks are on a health kick these days. They are trying to eat better but at the same time they don't want to have to spend more. One of the people that email me all the time started griping because the price of whole wheat flour went up at their store again. Nearly $18 for a 25 pound sack.

I informed her that we've been using whole wheat for many years and that I pay around $7.50 for fifty pounds. I visit my local MFA and buy whole wheat feed for that price and then just grind it myself. She responded by saying 'I'm surprised you don't have a thousand pounds put away for your apocalypse thing'. I don't. I only have about two hundred pounds put away!

We use a lot of flour and it's just plain silly to overpay for it. It doesn't matter if you agree with my view of the future or not.

Elected Officials

People always seem to think that their candidate is the ONLY one that can do good. Left or right it really doesn't matter much.

Look at it this way:

You buy two parrots. You train one to speak one way and the other to speak the other way. Sooner or later both of them are going to poop on you.

Tips

For those of you trying to put away some food supplies don't overlook things that may be important. Powdered eggs for example. When you think about it lots of dishes call for eggs. The problem with buying them is that you don't find many stores that sell them. Often you have to find them online or at eBay. I actually asked our local store if they could get it for me and they didn't even know what I was talking about.

Another item most people wouldn't consider but may come in very handy is potted meat. What exactly is potted meat? Potted meat comes in those tiny little cans and are made by three or four different companies, (possibly more when you consider the off brands). It can be made from a variety of different meats depending on the brand. So what does it taste like? By itself it tastes pretty nasty. Spread thin over crackers or bread it's not too bad. Just keep in mind that a little bit goes a long way. It is however a good source of protein. I advise you just buy one can at first to see if you are going to like it or not. It's usually pretty cheap so you won't be out much.

Banks set to fail

I'm not sure why I'm posting This Link since few will bother to read something that long or that complicated. Perhaps it's because what is really causing our downfall is the very fact that no one wants to be bothered.

To sum it up for those that are just too damn lazy to read it, it simply states that banks aren't worth nearly as much in reality as they show on paper. When the weak links begin to break it will bring them all down.

Not long ago we bailed out a lot of banks. We had to borrow trillions of dollars to do it. There will be no bail out this time.

Starting late

I was going to start this whole thing last year but poor health had me dealing with other issues and I kept putting it off. I was going to try and warn people about this and that but.... well.... it's a bit too late for that now.

First off, I'm not a fruitcake. Or maybe I am, I know that my wife sure calls me lots of names sometimes. Do I live in a cave way back in the hills? No. Do I have a huge stockpile of guns and ammo? No. Do I have a large stockpile of food? Yes. What I am, (for sure), is an old geezer who pays a little too much attention to the news.

I'm talking about the real news now, not those opinion shows that dress up as news shows. It's not like in the old days when Walter Cronkite would tell you the way it is. These days they tell you the way they think it should be. Depending on which news channel you watch that might be a liberal view or a conservative view. And they pretty much all do it. Okay, I'll get off my rant about the so called news now.

When you really dig you start finding things out that doesn't get reported on in the mainstream. Thankfully the internet is good for something after all besides stealing music and movies. Some of those things can scare the crap out of you. Some might even cause you to start stockpiling food, guns and ammo in your cave.

But I'm not really here to warn people now. It might even be too late to do any good anyway. What I am going to do is document the downfall of our way of life. I will try to link to real news stories and keep you up to date as best I can. That's if I don't keel over dead before I can get it all done.

I'll be seeing you soon so stay tuned.
